What's the "Dialog Method" ?
The term and the skill of the "Dialog Method" was newly coined by Yoshio Asano in 1994.
That is based on "active listening" which is popular as one of the basic skills used in psychotherapy, coaching, interview, etc.Definition of the "Dialog Method"
"Dialog Method" is one of the simplified communication skills the object of which is to spread the concept and the skill of active listening and empathic understanding those are effective to prevent misunderstanding and to make rapport in all of the situation of a dialog.
The general rule of the "Dialog Method" is;
To confirm the essential point of what the other person wants to tell before telling a opinion or a feeling of yourself.
The essence of the "Dialog Method" is the "point confirming skill".
The "point confirming skill" is effective when;
- the content of a dialog is important.
- a misunderstanding occurred in a dialog.
- opposition of the opinion occurred.
After "confirming the point", we may tell our opinion and feeling.
We may omit "confirming the point" when dialog is going well.
Characteristics of the "Dialog Method"
"Dialog Method" aims at;
- to prevent miscommunication and facilitate a rapport.
- to translate the concept of empathy into a physical action.
- popularization of the skill rather than the development of the theory.
- the practice(training) which can be managed without an expert.
- saving time and the cost for practicing the skill.
- a basic skill for a wide use.
Practice
The theory and the skill of the "Dialog Method" are not necessarily new, but these're effective to popularize the "listening skill" because of the simplicity.
The first group to practice the "Dialog Method" started at Kiryu City in 1994.
And now, we can have the chance to practice it in;
Tokyo, Gunma, Fukushima, Niigata areas in Japan.
